Broncos dubbed the best landing spot for free agent WR Chris Godwin

Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin is scheduled to become a free agent in March and Mason Cameron of Pro Football Focus has dubbed the Denver Broncos as the top landing spot for the talented receiver.

“Given the success Bo Nix showed in his first season — despite having few proven weapons at his disposal — Denver will want to supplement its receiving corps this offseason,” Cameron wrote on PFF’s website. “Sean Payton has shown a propensity to feed targets to receivers with a proven play-making track record, which Godwin is no stranger to, having seen 130-plus targets in each of his past three full seasons.”

Godwin (6-1, 209 pounds) was picked by the Bucs in the third round of the 2017 NFL draft out of Penn State. He has totaled 579 receptions for 7,266 yards and 39 touchdowns through eight seasons (111 games) in the NFL.

Godwin is one of the NFL’s top slot cornerbacks, but he will turn 29 in February and he is coming off ankle surgery. That injury could make Godwin a slightly risky signing, but it could also lower the cost to sign him.

Godwin earned an average of $20 million per season on his most recent contract with Tampa Bay.

Godwin has faced the Broncos twice in his career, hauling in 11 receptions for 117 yards and two touchdowns in those two contests. Before injuring his ankle, Godwin totaled 50 receptions for 576 yards and five touchdowns in seven games last season.
