Of the 19 Denver Broncos scheduled to become unrestricted free agents in 2023, defensive lineman Dre’Mont Jones is among the most notable.
Jones, who is entering the fourth and final year of his rookie contract, has recently emerged as one of the team’s best defensive lineman. The former third-round draft pick out of Ohio State doesn’t have the flashiest stats, but he’s constantly impacting plays, both in pass and run situations.
“I think I’m consistent with being disruptive,” Jones said on June 7. “If you watch [the] film, I’m going to be disruptive every time because I pride myself on that and I’m going to continue to do that.”
Last year, Jones totaled 31 tackles (including nine behind the line of scrimmage), 11 quarterback hits and 5.5 sacks. That brought his career totals to 28 QB hits and 15.5 sacks through three seasons (43 games).
Now entering a contract year, Jones says he’s focused on football. If he plays well this fall, the 25-year-old defensive lineman will be poised for a big contract as a free agent in 2023, either from the Broncos or another team. Expect an extra motivated Jones this season.
