Broncos coach Nathaniel Hackett continues to preach accountability

Denver Broncos coach Nathaniel Hackett continues to preach about accountability as the team continues to lose.

“It’s about accountability,” Hackett said after a 23-10 loss to the Carolina Panthers on Sunday. “Everybody has got to see what they can do themselves to be able to get better.

“It goes in all three phases. All three phases have to be better. That starts with me. I’ve got to be better. The coaches got to be better. The players got to be better. We just continually talk about growing, understanding where we’re going to go and what we can do.”

Hackett demonstrated some accountability a few weeks ago when he gave up play calling, but that hasn’t been enough to turn the team around. The biggest way that the Broncos’ front office could demonstrate accountability to the team would be by firing Hackett, showing that Denver’s results haven’t been good enough under the coach.

Hackett was asked after Sunday’s game if he’s worried about his job security, and the coach opted to keep the focus on the team, not himself.

“It’s about the team,” Hackett said. “I just want to find a way to win a football game. That’s so important to me. These coaches, these players, they work so hard and I just want to be there for them to be able to try to make it so we can be successful on the field.”

If Hackett isn’t able to turn things around and finish the season on an extremely strong note, he will ultimately be the one held accountable at the end of the season by Denver’s ownership group.
