Denver Broncos cornerback Pat Surtain has had an excellent start to the 2022 season, with strong performances against star wide receivers DK Metcalf and Davante Adams earlier this year.
This week, Surtain will face another challenge when the Broncos go on the road to face the Los Angeles Chargers and wide receivers Keenan Allen and Mike Williams.
“They bring us a lot of challenges to the table,” Surtain said of Allen and Williams. “Obviously, they have great receivers within the offensive scheme. They both make plays, and they are tremendous playmakers on their own.”
Allen lines up in the slot on about half of his snaps, so Surtain is unlikely to trail him for the full game. Surtain will likely spend time in coverage against both Allen and Williams, depending on the formation and situation.
The second-year cornerback is yet to allow a touchdown reception this season and Pro Football Focus has given Surtain a coverage grade of 88.1, which is the second-best grade in the NFL among CBs.
Surtain is already one of the best cornerbacks in the league, and a strong showing against the Chargers on Monday would improve the cornerback’s case as the best in the NFL.
