A man stabbed a railway worker and punched others after being challenged over fare dodging at a south London station.
Damilola Fatuga, 19, was convicted on Tuesday of the stabbing around 12.45pm on May 21 last year at Bromley South station.
Croydon Crown Court heard how Fatuga was challenged after going through the ticket barriers without paying. He then lashed out, punching the member of staff several times, knocking his front tooth out.
Two other members of staff rushed to help. Fatuga punched one of them in the eye and stabbed the other one multiple times as they attempted to restrain him.
The stab victim suffered wounds to his arm, thigh and stomach but these were luckily not life-threatening.
The knife was kicked out of Fatuga’s hand by a fourth member of staff and police arrested him at the scene.
Superintendent Darren Malpas, of British Transport Police, said: “This was a shocking and disturbing attack on members of staff who were attempting to do their job.
“It’s very fortunate that the stabbing victim did not suffer life threatening injuries, however it could’ve easily gone the other way.
“We know this attack had a significant impact on our colleagues in the rail industry.
The court found Fatuga guilty of GBH with intent in relation to the stabbing.
The 19-year-old, from Blackheath, Greenwich, had already confessed to the assaults on other members of staff and to carrying a knife.
He is due to be sentenced on Friday, February 10 2023.
