Broken glasses and a blood splattered door as woman rushed to hospital with serious injuries after violent assault

A door was left blood splattered as broken glasses and clumps of hair lay in the middle of the street following a violent assault in Oldham.

Police were called to reports of the attack on Waterloo Street at around 11am on Tuesday (May 23) where a 29-year-old woman was rushed to hospital from the scene with what police described as serious, but not life-threatening, injuries.

Witnesses told the Manchester Evening News that forensics officers were seen conducting investigations throughout Tuesday afternoon, with a number of evidence markers pictured on the ground and swabs being taken from areas within the cordon.

"There was blood on the ground and on the door, which an officer was taking swabs from," they said. "I was just passing and saw CSI vans and police tape at the scene.

"Forensics were picking up items on the floor. There were broken glasses, broken glass and hair on the ground."

Police confirmed that a woman had received serious injuries in the assault, that is understood to have been a 'fight' involving to people. No arrests have been made in connection with the incident.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: "At approximately 11am on today (23 May 2023), officers were called to reports of an assault on Waterloo Street in Oldham.

"A 29-year-old woman received serious injuries although these are thankfully not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing. No arrests have been made at this time although enquiries are ongoing."
