Brock Purdy update: No news remains good news

There remains no new information about Brock Purdy’s recovery from offseason elbow surgery, which is good news for the 49ers heading into late June.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Wednesday joined the Pat McAfee Show and provided an update on Purdy that didn’t include any new information.

Schefter said the 49ers are optimistic he’ll be ready for Week 1, although they’re not certain about that. He also said doctors have a strict throwing plan for Purdy to follow that the team is hopeful will get him healthy enough to be the starter for the season opener. Schefter didn’t have details on the throwing program.

This all tracks with what head coach Kyle Shanahan had to say during his press conferences during OTAs and minicamp.

It’s unlikely there’ll be any substantial update on Purdy until the team returns for training camp in late July. At that point there should be some real progress in the QB’s recovery.

Until then, empty updates should be considered a win since it means there hasn’t been a setback. As long as Purdy stays on track he should be healthy for the start of the year. Going into the season with a full stable of healthy QBs would be a nice start for a 49ers club that has struggled with injuries at the position.
