Brock Purdy is progressing in his throwing program as he recovers from offseason surgery to repair the torn UCL in his right elbow.
NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero on Monday reported Purdy would be traveling to Jacksonville to work with his throwing coach Will Hewlett and orthopedic specialist Tom Gormely.
Hewlett was the throwing coach Purdy worked with prior to the draft.
The plan remains for Purdy to return for the season opener on Sept. 10 in Pittsburgh, and getting with a throwing coach will be an important step as he starts stretching out his distance and increasing his velocity. He can work to ensure his mechanics aren’t breaking down as he recovers, and there’s footwork Purdy can work on without needing his arm to be at full strength.
There’s still no word on how much the second-year QB will be able to do in training camp or when he’ll be cleared to begin football activities.
