Brock Purdy injury already improving after game vs. Seattle

No news was good news on the Brock Purdy injury front following Thursday’s game. Head coach Kyle Shanahan immediately after the game didn’t mention Purdy dealing with any lingering effects from rib and oblique injuries that nearly forced him to sit out the 49ers’ contest in Seattle.

In a conference call with reporters Friday, Shanahan indicated Purdy is actually continued trending in a positive direction after playing Thursday night.

“He came out well,” Shanahan said. “I haven’t seen him today, but I just talked to our trainer and he said he came in feeling good and he’s feeling better today actually than he was earlier in the week. So, it was good, he got out healthy and should be a lot better going to next game.”

Given their injury woes at QB, the last thing the 49ers needed was something lingering for their new starter.

Purdy was limited all week in practice and didn’t get to throw until a pre-game walkthrough at the team hotel. He also had his pre-game warmups cut short to ensure he was limiting the strain on his injured side.

Shanahan said before the game Purdy couldn’t hurt it worse by playing and that pain tolerance was the bigger deal. With recovery going well and a couple extra days off, all signs point toward Purdy being ready to start Week 16 on Christmas Eve at Levi’s Stadium.
