Brock Purdy Contract: 49ers Want To Sign QB To Extension

There is no quarterback debate in San Francisco. The 49ers want Brock Purdy to be their guy, and the team plans to sign him to a long-term extension. What will Purdy’s contract look like?

John Lynch and Kyle Shanahan Support Brock Purdy

On Wednesday, general manager John Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan addressed the media for an end-of-the-season press conference. One of the pressing topics concerned Purdy, who is eligible to sign a contract extension. Lynch made it clear that the organization wants to re-sign Purdy.

“I think what we know about Brock is that he’s our guy,” Lynch said via 49ers.com. “We have interest in Brock being around here for a long, long time. He’s done so much for our organization; he’s won big games and had a little tougher task as we all did this year with some of the things that happened throughout the course of the year. We just never could string games where we were all together and through that, he continued to lead, he continued to play at a high level, so we have every interest in him being around.”

Even though the 49ers plan to take some time to reset after a long season, the organization plans to meet with Purdy and get a deal done quickly.

“We’ll have some time here in the coming weeks to sit together and put our whole plan together,” Lynch said about the organization’s plans for Purdy. “That’s obviously a priority, that position, and we’ll give it that attention.”

Purdy was selected with the last pick of the 2022 NFL Draft. Purdy’s rookie deal has an average annual value of $934,253. The Iowa State product has one year left on his deal, which will count $1.119 million against the cap in 2025.

NFL’s Highest-Paid Quarterbacks

Player Team Average Per Year
Dak Prescott Dallas Cowboys $55 million
Joe Burrow Cincinnati Bengals $55 million
Jordan Love Green Bay Packers $55 million
Trevor Lawrence Jacksonville Jaguars $55 million
Tua Tagovailoa Miami Dolphins $53.1 million
Jared Goff Detroit Lions $53 million
Justin Herbert Los Angeles Chargers $52.5 million
Lamar Jackson Baltimore Ravens $52 million
Jalen Hurts Philadelphia Eagles $51 million

Dallas’ Dak Prescott reset the quarterback market with a four-year, $240 million contract, with an average of $60 million per year.

Purdy likely won’t surpass Prescott’s deal. However, he will certainly land above $50 million per year.

Purdy finished the 2024 campaign throwing for 3,864 yards, 20 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions.
