Since getting selected in the first round of the 2024 NFL draft, former Georgia Bulldog tight end Brock Bowers has had a rookie season for the ages with the Las Vegas Raiders. So far, he has set records, earned a player of the month award and flashed his generational talent.
On Sunday, he achieved another milestone. Bowers became the third rookie tight end in history to eclipse 1,000 yards receiving, joining Mike Ditka (1961, 1,076) and former Florida Gator Kyle Pitts (2021, 1,026).
He also became the only rookie tight end to catch more than 100 passes in a season. He reached the milestone during his 11 reception, 99-yard day against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Bowers has 101 catches and 1,067 yards in 16 games. He is 10 yards away from surpassing Mike Ditka for the most receiving yards by a rookie tight end. He also needs just five receptions in the next two weeks to break Puka Nacua’s catch record for all rookies (Nacua set it last year with 105).
The Raiders (3-12) play the Saints and the Chargers in the next two weeks. They’ve had a disappointing season, but Bowers has given Raiders fans hope and optimism for the future.
Despite his excellence, he still ranks third in rookie of the year odds behind former LSU Heisman-winner Jayden Daniels and former Oregon quarterback Bo Nix, according to BetMGM.
