NEW YORK — The Great White Way is going green.
To commemorate Earth Day on April 22, the Broadway Green Alliance is holding a free concert and recycling event in Times Square on April 20 and 23.
A textile drive will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on April 20 in the center of Duffy Square to collect towels and other linen items so that they can be donated to local animal shelters.
Theater fans will get a chance to hear some of their favorite show tunes on April 23 when the Broadway Earth Day Concert will be held between 41st and 42nd streets from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Hosted by actress and transgender activist Shakina Nayfack, the star-studded event will feature Broadway performers such as Tony Award nominee Beth Malone, Tamar Green, who’s currently playing George Washington in “Hamilton,” Lindsay Roberts from “The Phantom of the Opera,” Aladdin” actors Arielle Jacobs, and Jeremy Gatson and Andrew Arrington from “The Lion King.”
Theatre groups from R.Evolución Latina, an arts organization, Perkiomen Valley High School, Eastchester High School and nonprofit theatre company Epic Players will also take the stage.
The concert is part of the New York City Department of Transportation’s “Car Free Earth Day,” which closes streets to cars and open them up to pedestrians throughout the city.
