RISC-V, an open-source alternative to ARM, is gaining traction as a potential competitor to AVGO in the development of customized hardware.

This poses a risk to AVGO as it enables any OEM, regardless of size and resources, to create cutting-edge hardware. In response, AVGO has announced its intention to become a stakeholder in a company aimed at advancing the adoption of RISC-V globally.

This company, based in Germany, will provide polished, OEM-ready products based on the RISC-V ISA, along with reference architectures and solutions.

Notably, high-profile investors such as Infineon Technologies, Nordic Semiconductor, NXP Semiconductors (NASDAQ: NXPI), Robert Bosch, and Qualcomm (NASDAQ: QCOM) have already shown interest in this venture, Notebookcheck reports.

The upcoming Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 has been spotted on Geekbench, achieving a single-core score of 2,233 and a multi-core score of 6,661 on a Samsung Galaxy S24+.

This represents a 20% improvement compared to the previous generation Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.

The new chip features a 1+3+2+2 configuration with different Cortex cores running at varying clock speeds. Additionally, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is equipped with the Adreno 750 GPU, which offers a 50% performance boost over its predecessor.

This development poses a potential competition risk for AVGO, Yugatech reports.

Pixel Watch 2, the next-generation smartwatch from Alphabet Inc’s (NASDAQ: GOOG) (NASDAQ: GOOGL) Google, is set to feature ultra-wideband (UWB) technology, giving it a competitive edge in the market.

The device will be equipped with an NXP SR100T UWB module, which will enhance the accuracy of the Find My Device feature.

UWB chips are also capable of unlocking cars with smartwatches, a technology already supported by BMW and being developed by other automakers.

Additionally, the Pixel Watch 2 will have an increased battery capacity of 306mAh, which, combined with the chip improvements, is expected to significantly improve battery life.

The smartwatch will also come with Wear OS 4 based on Android 13, allowing for seamless OS upgrades in the background, Gigazine reports.
