Broadchurch star 'ends 11-year marriage' after 'falling' for co-star on TV set

Broadchurch actor Andrew Buchan has reportedly left his wife "heartbroken" after calling it quits on their marriage.

The 44-year-old married Emmerdale and Downton Abbey star Amy Nuttall, 40, in 2012 with the pair sharing a child together, having started dating in 2007.

But despite being together for 16 years, it's claimed that days before Christmas, Andrew informed Amy he was leaving her and the family home to set up a new life.

Sources claim that those closest to Andrew and Amy have been left stunned by the bombshell news of his decision to pack up and leave.

"For Andrew to walk away from his family was a huge shock to us all – and Amy is heartbroken," said a source.

They went on to tell The Sun that he had "packed his bags", alleging that he had left with his new Better co-star.

"Nobody is quite sure of the exact details, but Andrew has clearly had his head turned pretty dramatically," they continued.

A source told the publication that those around the former couple believed that they would be together "forever".

Amy, however, is reportedly attempting to "keep going" but has been struggling to know that the new couple will be appearing on BBC One every week alongside one another.

Days before their split became public knowledge, Amy took to Instagram to share a cryptic quote with her 413 followers, reading: "I am not impressed by money, social status or job title. I'm impressed by the way someone treats other human beings."

The former couple tied the knot on September 8, 2012, close to where they both grew up in Lancashire and often put on a loved-up display on red carpets.

Meanwhile, Westminster-born Leila lives a relatively low-key lifestyle and received her big break in 2006 as the voice of Mrs Cat and Mrs Pony on Peppa Pig between seasons three and four.

However, her breakthrough role came in 2020 after landing the role of Naomi Jones on Billie Piper's I Hate Suzie.

Now, she's portraying DI Lou Slack on Better while Andrew is playing Col McHugh.

Andrew, who plays the head of the Leeds criminal underworld, is from Stockport, Cheshire and is best known for starring alongside Michelle Williams in All the Money in the World and ITV's Broadchurch.

The actor recently portrayed Matt Hancock as Health Secretary during the pandemic in the Sky drama This England in 2021.

Better launched on February 13, with all five episodes going live on BBC iPlayer on the same day.

Representatives for all three were approached for comment.
