Writer and broadcaster Maia Dunphy said she is still heartbroken over the death of her mum Helen who died of cancer in February.
Describing her “grimmest year” she revealed the only thing she can cherish is having spent so much time with her mum and her dad Tom during lockdown.
Maia, 46, and her seven-year-old son Tom, who she shares with comedian Johnny Vegas, formed a bubble with her parents during the pandemic.

The presenter, who returns with a new series of RTE’s What Planet Are You On?, said she was thankful that she was allowed spend time with her mum in hospital.
She said: “I was there every single day with her and we were able to have a funeral.
“It has been the grimmest year of my life but I think of friends who said goodbye to people through a glass wall and didn’t have a funeral and all those things.
“I spent a lot of time with my parents during lockdown, we kind of formed a bubble very early on.”
Opening up on her loss she said: “We are all heart broken.
“My dad is very stoic and logical and he keeps saying ‘We had 50 very happy years, not a lot of people had that’ and I really admire him for thinking of it that way. I was very close to my mum and I miss her. I can’t even articulate how much I miss her, and for Tom as well, my little boy, life will never be the same.”
Meanwhile, Maia had spoken about her new understanding on sustainability from her eco show.
She revealed: “By even using the half flush button on a toilet saves about three litres of water. I certainly learned from them.
“It’s about taking back control and making these small changes. Don’t underestimate the power of one.”
From year one I became a lot more aware of how much water is wasted when you flush the toilet.
“Every drop of water that comes into our house has to be treated for our consumption and sometimes we just don’t realise that."
