A reward of up to £20,000 has been offered for information after two men were killed in Brixton, one being hit by a car and the other shot.

Independent charity Crimestoppers has put forward the money after the incident on October 30, which has been described as “truly shocking”.

Moped delivery driver Guilherme Messias da Silva is thought to have collided with a vehicle on Railton Road at roughly 7.50pm while he was finishing his shift. The 21-year-old died at the scene from his injuries.

The car he collided with then crashed into parked vehicles nearby.

Meanwhile, a gunman then got out of a second car, which had also been driving down Railton Road at the same time as the collision. The gunman pursued Lemar Urquhart on foot and then shot dead the victim, before he got back into the second car and fled the scene.

A 25-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter. He was taken to an east London police station and is bailed to return at a date in mid-December.

Alexa Loukas, London regional manager of Crimestoppers, said a reward of up to £20,000 will be given for information that leads to the conviction of those responsible.

She said: “It’s truly shocking to think that such violence could take place on the street in the early evening, taking away the lives of two young men. Our thoughts are very much with the family and friends of the victims, and the wider community affected.”

Crimestoppers works independently of the police and anyone who speaks with the charity can do so anonymously.

Mr da Silva’s mother Roseangela said she is “devastated and shattered” by the loss of her son.

She said “Unfortunately, Guilherme’s death happened in a tragic way, and it was caused by irresponsible people who deserve to be punished for taking away the life of an innocent person. My son was a calm, quiet and hardworking boy. My sadness goes beyond my soul for losing my beloved son.”

Lemar Urquhart’s parents gave a statement to the police. This read: “The parents of Lemar are grieving the loss of their son and would like to appeal to anyone with information to come forward and assist the police in their investigation.”

Contact Crimestoppers by calling 0800 555 111. No personal details will be stored. To be eligible for the reward, callers must ask for a code.
