Brits flock to beaches to enjoy 22C heat ahead of 'warmest day of the year' tomorrow

Parts of the UK will be warmer than Barcelona on Monday as weather experts project it to be the hottest day of the year so far.

Brits will bask in summery highs of 22C as part of the ongoing spring heatwave.

The glorious warm weather has seen sunseekers out in their droves enjoying the sunshine in parks across the country following a lacklustre May so far.

But the mercury is set to rise even higher on Monday, which has been forecast as the warmest day so far in 2023.

The Met Office has described it as a "fine and dry day with warm sunny spells", while temperatures will edge over the 20C mark.

The warmest temperatures on Monday has been forecast for Cardiff and Weymouth on the Dorset coast, set to hit 23 and 22C on Monday afternoon - compared with a slightly milder top temperature of 20C in sunny Barcelona.

Britain's current spell of warm weather is part of a warm bloc from Africa, and it's projected to get warmer still towards the end of the month.

Jim Dale, senior meteorologist at British Weather Services, said the country can expect highs of 25C towards the end of May.

Then, in June, the nation could see the temperatures and humidity turn up a notch as the plume of North African air pushes across Europe.

Speaking to The Express, the senior meteorologist said: “We should hit 25C before May is out. Then 30C is the next staging post.

“I think it’s a 50/50 chance for 30C heat during the first 10 days of June, but it is all down to us receiving the necessary sustained airflow from North Africa.”

Weather maps indicate that as things stand, June 3 could see temperatures spike as the plume of hot air from the south covers parts of the south east of England and midlands.
