Britney Spears says her sons have been ‘pretty harsh’ for not wanting to see her

Britney Spears has said her children’s decision to spend less time with her is “pretty harsh” in a now deleted Instagram post.

On Wednesday (10 August), the singer posted a lengthy statement to the social media site in response to claims made by her ex-husband Kevin Federline. During an interview with ITV, Federline, who was married to the singer from 2004 to 2007, alleges their two teenage sons want to spend less time with her because of several racy images posted to her Instagram profile.

In her statement, Britney hit back at her ex-husband, saying the situation “should have been 100 per cent dealt with privately and definitely not online.” The singer also described how she became frustrated when her sons Sean, 17, and Jayden, 15, would “walk in the door, go straight to their room and lock the door” during their weekly visits.

She said: “Why come visit me if they don’t even visit me!!!”

The Oops I Did It Again singer described the situation as hurtful and how she “wants to scream.” In the post, Britney suggests her attempts to heal their relationship may have made the situation worse.

She explained how she would lead her kids through “prayer time” where they would “read two or three pages in a prayer book and talk about it.” She said: “Maybe that’s why they stopped coming here!!!

"I wanted them to love me so much that I might have overdone it!!!”

When the boys told her earlier this year they want to spend less time with her, Britney said "the teenage age is weird" but she understood it “because they have their own thing going on.” She also admitted she felt the boys were “being pretty harsh.”

According to Britney, after she relayed the conversation to her ex-husband, their sons stopped visiting. She claimed Federline told her in response: “I would never let them make that decision on their own … I would never do that to you.”

Shortly after Britney’s post, Federline shared a series of private videos allegedly filmed in 2018 to his own Instagram page. In the clips, the singer can be heard arguing with and occasionally swearing at her children.

A caption for the clip read: “I can not sit back and let my sons be accused in this way after what they’ve been through. As much as it hurts us, we decided to post these videos the boys took when they were 11 & 12.

“This isn’t even the worst of it. The lies have to stop.”

Following Federlines post, Britney deleted her statement.
