Britney Spears Said FU To NDAs & Dropped Tea About Literally Every Celeb In Her New Memoir

It’s here. The Bible. Mother’s memoirs. A chronicle of tea so piping hot it’ll scald Hades. That’s right, folks, Britney Spears‘ tell-all book has landed and the pages are burning up. In the few hours since The Woman In Me has been released eager fans have devoured the pages, uncovering some very juicy details about Britney’s rollercoaster career and the many famous people she’s rubbed shoulders with along the way.

Usually celebrity memoirs have a few salacious anecdotes but often details are bound by gag orders and NDAs – but not our Britney! She’s said a big old ‘fuck you’ to keeping things behind closed doors and she’s letting loose. If she so much as sniffed at a celebrity over the past 20 years, you best believe she’s included it in her book.

Ryan Gosling

Over the past few days the internet has been buzzing as uncovered footage from Britney’s audition for The Notebook went viral. In her book she opens up about what it was like auditioning alongside her old Mickey Mouse Club buddy, Ryan Gosling.

Rachel McAdams

While we’re on the topic of The Notebook, she also mentioned how it was a tight race between her and Rachel McAdams both vying for the role of Allie. In the end Rachel scored the role but Britney agrees that it was the right decision. In her memoir she said she was “glad” she didn’t get the role as it would have been too hard to break character while filming Crossroads.

Madonna

TBH she could probably release a second book all about her admiration for Madonna. It’s estimated that she mentions the iconic singer around 17 times throughout her memoir, often citing how in awe she is of her confidence and power.

“Madonna’s supreme confidence helped me see a lot about my situation with fresh eyes. I think she probably had some intuitive sense of what I was going through. I needed a little guidance at that time,” wrote Britney.

Max Martin

In her book Britney takes the time to pay homage to one of her most successful professional partnerships with the Swedish music producer Max Martin. After being urged to take a meeting with him by her record label they had a great connection (despite their table going up in flames?) and they went on to make a number of hit records together.

Olivia Newton-John

Little did we know but once upon a time Brit and our beloved Olivia Newton-John were friendly neighbours. Once when Britney was having a stint living in New York City she became acquaintances with the Aussie icon.

“Sandy from Grease lived nearby, too. I’d see her and call out, ‘Hi Olivia Newton-John! How are you, Olivia Newton-John?” she wrote.

I like to imagine them sharing some Vegemite toast and Cosmopolitans on the stoop from time to time.

Natalie Portman

This book really shines a light on just how long Britney has been working in showbiz. She recalls back in 1992 when she and Natalie Portman were both understudies for the off-Broadway production of Ruthless!. The role in question was a “sociopathic child star” which apparently “hit close to home” for dear Britney.

Donatella Versace

In the wake of her breakup with Justin Timberlake, Britney took a gals trip out to Milan to visit Donatella Versace. I usually eat a lot of packet mix brownies until I get a funny little tummy ache when I’m heartbroken but I guess we all heal differently.

“That trip invigorated me— it reminded me that there was still fun to be had in the world,” wrote Britney. “Donatella is known for her lavish parties and this one was no exception. I remember seeing Lenny Kravitz there, all these cool people. That party was really the first thing I did to put myself out there after the breakup with Justin— on my own, innocent.”

Reese Witherspoon

While she may not know her personally, Britney listed Reese Witherspoon as somewhat of an inspiration to her.

“Once you start to see yourself that way— as not just someone who exists to make everyone else happy but someone who deserves to make their wishes known—that changes everything,” she wrote. “When I started to think that I could be, like Reese, someone who was nice but also strong, it changed my perspective on who I was.”

Lindsay Lohan

In 2006 Britney ended her marriage with Kevin Federline and called up Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton and said, ‘get in losers, we’re going clubbing.’ The holy trinity were photographed up the wazoo and much fanfare was made about their little party crew. However, in her memoir Britney said that her days socialising with Lindsay weren’t as wild as what we all thought.

“It was never as wild as the press made it out to be,” she wrote.

Mariah Carey

Given the fact that Britney is an idol to so many, it’s easy to forget that she herself has her own idols, too. In her memoir she remembers meeting Mariah Carey and how she agreed to a picture only if the perfect photoshoot demands were met.

“I did everything Mariah Carey told me to do and we took the photo,” she wrote. “Of course she was completely right about everything, the photo looked incredible. I know I won an award that night, but I couldn’t even tell you what it was. The perfect photo with Mariah Carey— that was the real prize.”

I’d give my left boob (the good one) to get my hands on those outtakes.

Looking back on Britney’s dark days it feels like she didn’t have a lot of good people to turn to when she was at her lowest moments. But one friend who has been there for her through it all has been Paris Hilton.

She mentioned Paris as being “one of the people who was kindest to me when I really needed kindness… she encouraged me to have fun for the first time in a long time.”

Steve Tyler

During the 2001 Superbowl Halftime Show Britney had an opportunity to perform with a music legend when she took the stage with Steve Tyler and Aerosmith. While not all of her encounters with famous people over the years were positive, she recalls this moment as one for the books (literally).

“I was brought to Steven Tyler’s trailer to meet him right before the show, and his energy was incredible: he was such an idol to me,” she wrote.

Lenny Kravitz

There’s not a huge amount of tea on Lenny Kravitz but his named bared repeating twice throughout the book so I guess he had some sort of effect on her. He’s quite a zaddy so can’t say I blame her.

“Legends! Legends everywhere I look!” she wrote when remembering seeing him backstage at the MTV VMAs.

Keri Russell

Another famous friend from the infamous Mickey Mouse Club days was Keri Russell. In her book Britney described The Americans actress as a “a beautiful girl from California,” which feels like a very accurate statement.

Justin Timberlake

Hooooo boy, how much time have you got? Probably one of the central focuses of the book has been spilling tea on her relationship with Justin Timberlake. And yep, there’s a lot to unpack. Firstly, there is the much publicised pregnancy and abortion they had while dating because Britney said Justin, “didn’t want to be a father.”

“But Justin definitely wasn’t happy about the pregnancy,” she continued. “He said we weren’t ready to have a baby in our lives, that we were way too young. If it had been left up to me alone, I never would have done it.”

And then the book goes on to detail some more truly cringey moments – someone really needs to go check on him ‘cos, yikes.

Ginuwine

Speaking of cringey moments – how’s about this one with Ginuwine (best known for singing the Magic Mike hit “Pony”). According to Britney’s book one day she was walking the streets with her then boyfriend Justin and they ran into rapper Ginuwine.

“Walking our way was a guy wearing a huge blinged-out medallion,” she wrote. “He was flanked by two giant security guards. [Justin] got all excited and said so loud, ‘Oh yeah. Fo’ shizz. Fo’ shizz. Ginuwine what’s up homie?’”

Oh no, no, no, I hate it. I’d like to curl up into a little ball for a few years now.

Oprah

In her book Britney opens up about finding a voice of calm and reason amongst the shit storm. And of course that voice was the almighty Oprah. Apparently the talkshow host offered some sage advice after personal details around her intimacy with Justin Timberlake became highly scrutinised in the media.

“I’d appreciated it when Oprah told me on her show that my sexuality was no one else’s business,” she wrote. “And that when it came to virginity, ‘you don’t need a world announcement if you change your mind.’”

Colin Farrell

If you cast your mind back to 2003 you might remember the flash in the pan relationship between Colin Farrell and Britney Spears. The ill-fated romance was all anyone could talk about for two weeks and we now know a little bit more about what was going on behind closed doors. Rootin’. Lot’s of rootin’, my friends.

Brawl is the only word for it— we were all over each other, grappling so passionately it was like we were in a street fight,” she wrote.

Sarah Silverman

In 2007 comedian Sarah Silverman took aim at Britney Spears while hosting the MTV VMAs. On stage she called Britney’s sons “the most adorable mistakes you’ll ever see” which in turn made the mother-of-two sob “hysterically” while backstage.

Sarah has since apologised for any hurt she caused with her comments.

Diane Sawyer

In 2003 Britney did an interview with Diane Sawyer however she looks back on the interaction as a “breaking point”. According to Britney, Diane seemed to be laser-focused on telling a salacious story about her and kept hitting her sore points.

“It was completely humiliating,” she writes. “I wasn’t told what the questions would be ahead of time, and it turned out they were 100 percent embarrassing. I was too vulnerable then, too sensitive, to do this type of interview.

“I didn’t want to share anything private with the world. I didn’t owe the media details of my breakup. I shouldn’t have been forced to speak on national TV, forced to cry in front of this stranger, a woman who was relentlessly going after me with harsh question after harsh question. Instead, I felt like I had been exploited, set up in front of the whole world.”

Christina Aguilera

Despite their very contentious relationship that spans back to their early days filming the Mickey Mouse Club together, Britney seems to hold back when speaking about Christina Aguilera. Maybe she’s moved on or maybe she doesn’t want to dredge up old wounds but it’s all fairly innocuous. Probably the most interesting factoid was Britney recalling an evening when she noticed Christina “seemed pretty messed up,” from partying.

She also went on to say that at one point Christina had encouraged her to get back with Justin which was a complete 180 turn from her previous advice.

Elton John

In her book Britney credits Sir Elton John as being a confidant and mentor after her conservatorship ended. In 2022 they collaborated on a remix “Hold Me Closer” which was her first foray back into music after many years.

“I was so honoured,” she wrote. “Like me, Elton John has been through so much, so publicly. It’s given him incredible compassion. What a beautiful man on all levels.”

Ryan Seacrest

In 2007 Britney only did one interview, this time with Ryan Seacrest. At this point she had been dragged through the mud by incessant gossip magazines and relentless paparazzi so it’s not hard to see why she was so elusive. But once again she was let down by shitty people who were only interesting in weaving a one-note narrative about her.

“It felt like that was the only thing people wanted to talk about: whether or not I was a fit mother,” she writes. “Not about how I’d made such a strong album while holding two babies on my hips and being pursued by dozens of dangerous men all day every day.”

This poor, poor woman.

Matt Lauer

In 2006 at the height of the media fracas surrounding her fame Britney decided to sit down with journalist Matt Lauer in an effort to quell attention. But in reality all it did was stoke to fire more and Britney walked away from the interview feeling disenfranchised with the media cohort at large.

“He said that people were asking questions about me, including: ‘Is Britney a bad mom?’ He never said who was asking them. Everyone, apparently,” she writes. “And he asked me what I thought it would take for the paparazzi to leave me alone. I wished he’d ask them— so whatever it was, I could do exactly that.”

Years later Matt had a spectacular fall from popularity when he was accused of sexual abuse within the workplace and ultimately lost his job as anchor on one of the most popular TV networks in America. All I have to say is that karma always works its magic.

Jamie Lynn Spears

There’s obviously a lot of tension and trauma that dates back many years between Britney and her younger sister, Jamie Lynn Spears. In her memoir Britney touches on the hurt and pain caused after fighting her 13-year conservatorship and the role Jamie Lynn played in that journey.

“My sister and I should have found comfort in each other, but unfortunately that hasn’t been the case,” she wrote. “As I was fighting the conservatorship and receiving a lot of press attention, she was writing a book capitalising on it. She rushed out salacious stories about me, many of them hurtful and outrageous. I was really let down.

“She will always be my sister, and I love her and her beautiful family. I’m working to feel more compassion than anger toward her and toward everyone who I feel has wronged me. It’s not easy.”
