Britney Spears issued a lengthy statement asking her family to "take responsibility for their actions", with her mum Lynne Spears responding by pleading for forgiveness.
The 67-year-old issued a public apology for any "pain" her daughter endured during her controversial 13-year-conservatorship. Britney, 40, had been under a conservatorship – ran by her father Jamie Spears since 2008 – and endured a long fight to have the conservatorship removed.
The conservatorship finally came to an end in November last year, with the pop star saying getting her freedom was the "best day ever".
Lynne has now said she misses Britney and asked for forgiveness in an Instagram comment shared under the singer's recent post asking for "a genuine apology" from her family.
Britney wrote: "The real problem to me is that my family to this day honestly have no conscious whatsoever and really believe in their minds they have done nothing wrong at all!!!!
"They could at least take responsibility for their actions and actually own up to the fact they hurt me!!!!
"For me just a genuine apology would help give me closure but it honestly blows my mind every day of my life even after what is known what they did to me, they still act as if that’s ok!!!!"
She added: "I don’t have a family that values me or respects me …. AT ALL!!! That’s the hard part for me and as much as I loved them, it’s something that I’ll probably ever won’t be able to get over."
Britney said she wants to "speak from my heart" and said she is working on becoming stronger.
In response, Lynne commented: "I am soooo sorry for your pain! I have been sorry for years! I love you so much and miss you!
"Britney, deep down you know how much I love and miss you! I apologize for anything and everything that’s hurt you!"
The author also begged the Grammy winner to "please unblock" her so they could speak in person.
Britney's husband Sam Asghari is thought to be worried for the singer as she continues to "lash out in anger" on social media.
"It feels like Britney's anger getting worse and she's picking fights for no reason," a source told Heat.
They added: "She's been through so much, it's understandable that she struggles to let go of the past. Everyone understands why she keeps lashing out, but her friends and Sam are also really worried."
