Britney Spears has ended months of speculation by confirming she is writing a memoir, describing the process as “healing and therapeutic”.

The singer, 40, opened up about penning the tell-all book in a since-deleted post on Instagram.

She said: "I’m writing a book at the moment and it’s actually healing and therapeutic.

"It’s also hard bringing up past events in my life…I’ve never been able to express openly."

"I can only imagine that I do sound childish but I was extremely young when those events took place … and addressing it now, I’m sure it seems irrelevant to most.

"I’m completely aware of that,” she continued. “But instead of using my heart I’m using the intellectual approach."

Spears’ fiancé Sam Asghari, 28, commented on her post, saying he would be "buying the first copy".

The Toxic hit-maker will certainly have a lot of material to draw from, including her global rise to fame as a teenager, family feuds and the controversial conservatorship which controlled many aspects of her life, including her finances, for 13 years.

The legal agreement was first put in place in 2008 amid substance abuse and mental health issues.

Last November, a judge ruled the conservatorship should be terminated, finally handing Spears the keys to her estimated $60 million (£45 million) estate.

No release date for the popstar’s book has been given.

It was reported in February that Simon & Schuster had won the publishing rights in a book deal believed to be worth as much as $15m.

A source told Page Six: “The deal is one of the biggest of all time, behind the Obamas.”
