Britney Spears' father Jamie Spears ordered to appear in court for questioning over conservatorship

Britney Spears ' father Jamie Spears has been ordered to appear in court to face questioning over his actions in the pop star's legal conservatorship.

A Los Angeles Superior Court judge ordered the 70-year-old to take part in a deposition on Wednesday (July 13), following 13 years as the head of the conservatorship involving his daughter.

According to Page Six, Judge Brenda Penny ruled Jamie must schedule a deposition by August 12, as well as produce all documents requested by the singer's lawyers.

Britney's attorney Mathew Rosengart previously hit out at the father-of-three for allegedly "running and hiding" from his own deposition and "accounting for his misconduct — under oath — as required by law."

Mr Rosengart told reporters outside the court after the hearing: "Today was a very good day in court for Britney Spears, and it was a very good day for justice.

"Mr Spears as the court determined has now effectively been hiding from his deposition for no less than nine months.

"The day of reckoning for Mr Spears has come... we have seen nothing but obstruction and stone-walling from him."

He continued: "His daughter is finally free. His daughter is married. His daughter is happy. His daughter wants to move on.

"Mr Spears, if he loves his daughter as he professes he does, should leave her alone."

It follows after Jamie requested an investigation into his daughter's claims that she had been mistreated under her conservatorship.

The Toxic singer, 40, has been under a conservatorship since she suffered a mental health breakdown in 2008 and made a string of allegations against her dad to a Los Angeles judge late last month.

Some of her claims included her being forced to take the drug lithium against her will as well as being forced onto contraception.

She told the judge that she wanted the "abusive" conservatorship to end.

In November last year, Britney was finally freed from her conservatorship, giving her control of her own assets and finances after being unable to touch her accounts for so long.

Meanwhile, last week, the star lashed out at film makers keen to highlight her personal struggles in various documentaries.

Part of her lengthy post read: "I feel like America has done a wonderful job at humiliating me. I’ve never felt more bullied in my life in this country it’s insane… and come on seriously is it honestly legal to do that many documentaries about someone without their blessing at all??!"

Mirror Online has contacted Britney's representatives for comment.
