Kevin Federline has broken his silence after his ex Britney Spears announced she was pregnant yesterday.
The former husband of the pop superstar shares two teenage sons with her, Sean, 16 and 15-year-old Jaden.
Now he's responded to the news that Britney is expecting her first child with fiancé Sam Asghari.
The 40-year-old shared the surprise news to her 40.3 million followers on Instagram.
She was married to her former backing dancer between 2004 and 2007.
OK reports Kevin’s lawyer Mark Vincent Kaplan gave the his client’s reaction following Britney’s pregnancy announcement as he told NBC News: “Kevin is aware of Britney’s Instagram post.
“He wishes her the best for a happy, healthy pregnancy and congratulates her and Sam Asghari as they plan for the excitement of parenthood together.”
Kevin has had primary custody of sons Sean and Jaden since the couple split.
This covered the time the singer's mental health issues started to surface and around the time she began her 13-year conservatorship.
Britney has still maintained a close relationship with her children and she spends time with her boys regularly.
They also feature heavily on her Instagram posts.
The Baby One More Time singer said she took a pregnancy test after Sam suggested she take one.
She wrote: "I lost so much weight to go on my Maui trip only to gain it back … I thought “Geez … what happened to my stomach ???” My husband said “No you’re food pregnant silly !!!” So I got a pregnancy test … and uhhhhh well … I am having a baby … 4 days later I got a little more food pregnant It’s growing !!! If 2 are in there … I might just loose it …"
Britney added: "It’s hard because when I was pregnant I had perinatal depression … I have to say it is absolutely horrible … women didn’t talk about it back then … some people considered it dangerous if a woman complained like that with a baby inside her … but now women talk about it everyday … thank Jesus we don’t have to keep that pain a reserved proper secret… This time I will be doing yoga every day !!! Spreading lots of joy and love !!!"
Kevin's lawyer spoke out on behalf of his client last year about Britney and her conservatorship battle.
He stated that he wanted her to be “happy and healthy” and supported her in finding the best environment for herself.
“What is best for her, Kevin supports her in being able to do that,” Kaplan told Entertainment Tonight last June.
“It doesn’t matter how positive of an effect a conservatorship has had if it’s having a deleterious effect and detrimental effect on her state of mind.
“So he supports her having the best environment for her to live in and for his children to visit with their mother in.”
Britney claimed she had not been "allowed" to cone off birth control whilst locked in her conservatorship, which she was finally released from in November last year.
