British Transport Police update as person hit by a train left with life-threatening injuries

A person hit by a train has been taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries, British Transport Police (BTP) have confirmed. BTP officers were called to Humphrey Park Railway Station, on the Manchester to Liverpool Line - between Urmston and Trafford Park - just after 8am on Monday (June 26), where a person was found injured on the tracks.

The incident has caused disruption on the wider railway network, with East Midlands Railway services on the Liverpool/Nottingham/Norwich route among those affected.

In an update, the Liverpool Echo reports, a spokesperson for BTP said: "Officers were called to Humphrey Park Railway Station at 8.02am on 26 June following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

"Paramedics also attended, and a person has been taken to local hospital with life-threatening injuries. This incident is not being treated as suspicious."

In an earlier statement, a spokesperson for East Midlands Railway said: "We are sad to report that a person has been hit by a train. This has occurred between Liverpool Lime Street and Manchester Oxford Road disrupting our trains on the Liverpool/Nottingham/Norwich route. We are currently unable to run trains via Warrington Central."

Some services on the Liverpool/Nottingham/Norwich line continue to run with delays or alterations. EMR staff advice passengers to check their website for more information on specific trains affected.

The Samaritans run a free 24-hour phone line on 116 123 for people experiencing a range of problems, with a website where further details can be found.
