A 21-year-old British tourist has died after being found unconscious in a hotel swimming pool in Cyprus, local media have reported. It is said he was pulled from the water on Tuesday (July 5) and died later in hospital.
The tragedy happened at a hotel in the Tomb of the Kings area of Paphos, a Cypriot island, MirrorOnline reports. It is thought the man was staying with his parents in the hotel, a Paphos police spokesman was reported as saying.
After being pulled from the water at around 6pm, he was taken to Paphos hospital and put in intensive care, but was pronounced dead shortly afterwards. An investigation is underway and an autopsy will be performed soon, Cyprus Mail reports.
Earlier this year a British father-of-two also died while holidaying on the popular tourist island after a hit-and-run incident. Builder Robert "Charlie" Birch, 39 was heading home after a night out with a family member when he was hit by a local man after an earlier bar fight.
