A British teenager has died after falling from a seventh-floor bathroom at an apartment block in the southern Spanish city of Cordoba.
The 15-year-old boy is understood to have been on a school exchange.
Local authorities say they are treating the incident as a tragic accident and say police are not investigating it as a crime at this stage.
The youngster fell to his death from the bathroom window at the block around 11.25pm on Saturday night.
The teenager had been in the city for less than a week and was participating in a language exchange.
One local report said he had been trying to fix a broken blind in a room where he was staying with a host family when he lost his balance.
Local education chief Inmaculada Troncoso said in a statement: “We deeply regret what has happened.
“We are offering support to the school where the boy was as well as his family.”
Another local report said he had plunged to his death after trying to push open the bathroom window and falling out of it in a freak accident.
A spokesman for a regional goverment-run emergency services coordination centre confirmed: “A 15-year-old youngster has died in Cordoba after falling from a seventh-floor bathroom window.
“We were alerted around 11.25pm on Saturday night to say a person had fallen from a window at an apartment block in Periodista Quesada Chacon Street.
“Emergency services including police and medical responders were alerted but the youngster was already dead when they arrived following what police have indicated was an accidental fall.”
A Foreign Office spokesperson said.“We are supporting the family of a British child who died following an incident in Cordoba in Spain.”
