British Soap Awards viewers ask 'are you alright' after BBC star makes awkward name blunder

British Soap Awards viewers picked up on an awkward name blunder last night as the annual awards ceremony aired on ITV. One of the biggest nights in the showbiz calendar took place in Salford on Saturday (June 3) with a huge array of soap stars in attendance.

Actors and actresses from the likes of Coronation Street, EastEnders and Hollyoaks attended the glitzy bash at the The Lowry Theatre to find out who had scooped an award. Amongst the titles up for grabs were Best Dramatic Performance, Best Newcomer and the night's biggest accolade Best British Soap.

But as the pre-recorded show played out on ITV last night (June 6), many viewers pointed out an awkward name blunder that happened as one of the winers was called out.

Host Jane McDonald, who stepped in to replace Phillip Schofield, handed over to a star from BBC's The Traitors to announce the line-up for the Best Villain award, reports The Mirror.

Wilfred Webster, who took part in the first hit season of the Traitors, took to the stage in a green cloak before pulling down his hood down to reveal the nominations.

The nominees included Emmerdale's Al Chapman (played by Michael Wildman), Coronation Street's Stephen Reid (Todd Boyce) and EastEnders' Ravi Gulati (Aaron Thiara).

But as he read out Aaron's name, he appeared to mispronounce it and viewers were quick to spot the error.

Taking to Twitter, one person said: “Erm don’t think that’s how you pronounce Aaron hahaha.”

A second added: “Love my AYYYRON thiara.”

“A-ron? Is it not Aaron,” said someone else, as a fourth mused: “Who’s aayron thiara.”

Another viewer said: “ayron theaira??? are you alright mate?”.

Aaron took home the award for Best Villain for his role as Ravi Gulati - who managed to rock Albert Square during his short time there.

The award show was hosted by Loose Women panellist and cruise ship queen Jane McDonald, who wowed in a red velvet dress as she arrived to present this year's British Soap Awards.

She was announced as presenter following Phillip Schofield's dramatic exit from ITV.

The former This Morning star stepped down from all of his ITV duties including hosting The British Soap Awards after news of his concealed affair broke last month.

Schofield had previously hosted the soap celebration every year since 2006 but has since parted ways with ITV including their Soap Awards event.
