Coronation Street romped to victory during big night for the soap only yards away from the iconic set at Trafford Wharf.
Corrie may have missed out on best soap to Hollyoaks, but it took home a clutch of prizes at the British Soap Awards, held at The Lowry theatre just across the bridge from the home of the nation's longest-running soap.
Shayne Ward, who played tragic Aidan Connor in Corrie , picked up the award for best single episode for Aidan’s suicide and the aftermath at the ceremony hosted by Oldham-born Phillip Schofield.
The impact of Aidan's suicide also won best storyline.
The story of Aidan, who took his own life after secretly struggling with his mental health, was highly praised when the heartbreaking scenes were screened last May.
"Let's keep breaking down that taboo," said the actor, from Clayton, alongside director David Kester.

Shortly afterwards he was followed onto the stage by Alexandra Mardell who scooped the best newcomer award after joining the Corrie cobbles last year as bubbly Emma Brooker.
She was visibly shocked and tearful as she was congratulated by her delighted co-stars as her name was announced.
"I was really not expecting that. I've had the time of my life this year," she told the audience at The Lowry theatre.
"Thank you so much, this is ridiculous. This is the best year of my life."

Gail Platt's moving monologue following the death of Aidan as the news was taken in by his grieving friends and family won best scene.
Corrie icon Helen Worth accepted the gong in a fabulous peacock patterned skirt and she was joined on the stage by David, who directed the scene.
"How lovely is this?" she asked.
"It was just a scene but an awful lot of work goes into a scene. I'm just the lucky one who gets to say it."

There was a big surprise for Sue Nicholls, who has played the much-loved Audrey Roberts in the soap for 40 years, when she received the outstanding achievement award, presented by Tracy Shaw who played murdered Maxine Peacock.
"Stop it," Sue joked as received a standing ovation.
"I was paid for all those scenes. I'm just gobsmacked."
