British radio presenter dies live on air during breakfast show, aged 55

A British radio host has died "doing what he loved", after suffering a suspected heart attack live on-air while presenting his popular breakfast radio show.

Local station GenX Radio Suffolk confirmed that veteran broadcaster Tim Gough, 55, died suddenly on Monday morning, local time.

Gough was broadcasting from a studio in his home in Lackford, England, about 55km from the station’s headquarters.

The station said Gough died at 7:50am from a suspected heart attack.

Music suddenly stopped before starting again several minutes later, just an hour into his show, the BBC reported.

GenX Radio Suffolk managing director James Hazell said that he had known the popular DJ closely for more than 30 years.

"To know Tim, personally, as I did very closely for [more than] 30 years, was to know a warm, caring, fun guy, who myself and my family loved dearly."

GenX Radio is a relatively new station, which aims to "bring back" local, independent radio to Suffolk.

"Tim has been on the radio since the 80s and had come out of radio retirement to fully involve himself in our project from the beginning, to bring local commercial radio back to his beloved Suffolk," Hazell said.

Gough began his broadcasting career at Ipswich's Radio Orwell in 1986.

Hazell later tweeted that he will "not allow [Tim's] hard work to amount to nothing".

"We are going to create the best radio station we possibly can, that Suffolk is proud of," he wrote.

"It will be Tim's legacy."

GenX Radio Suffolk said that Gough was "doing what he loved".

"Tim was a hugely experienced and highly talented broadcaster with an army of fans for his daily show," the station said.

"He is a very sad loss to radio and the county of Suffolk."
