British PM To Join Emergency Summit In Paris

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer speaks

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer is scheduled to attend an emergency summit in Paris on Monday alongside European leaders, as reported by Britain’s PA media. This summit comes in the wake of strained relations between Europe and the United States following a conversation between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, where Trump is advocating for a peace deal between Russia and Ukraine.

In a statement released by Downing Street on Saturday, Starmer emphasized the importance of keeping the US and Europe united in the face of external threats. He stressed the need for solidarity within the alliance to effectively address the challenges posed by Russia.

Starmer highlighted the current global security landscape, describing it as a pivotal moment that demands a collective effort to confront the threat posed by Russia. He underscored the necessity for Europe to play a more significant role within NATO while collaborating with the US to ensure Ukraine's security and counter the Russian threat.

Meanwhile, Trump's special envoy for Russia and Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, stated on Saturday that European officials would not be part of the negotiations aimed at resolving the conflict in Ukraine. This development underscores the complex dynamics at play in the region.

During the Munich Security Conference, Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski disclosed that French President Emmanuel Macron had proposed a summit of European leaders in Paris to address the escalating situation. Sikorski expressed confidence that the European leaders would approach the discussions with a high level of seriousness.

As of now, France has yet to officially confirm the convening of the summit, but the urgency of the situation underscores the need for swift and decisive action from European leaders.
