A British ex-pat was shot dead as he rode his scooter in one of Thailand’s most popular beach hotspots.

The pensioner named locally as Neil Lewis Roger, who was 71 despite news reports putting his age at 70, was found by a passerby with four bullet wounds in his back in an alley in Chonburi’s popular Bang Lamung district.

His 38-year-old Thai wife Thitipan Kammalas rushed to the scene in tears after hearing he was shot at about 10.30pm on Thursday.

She told The Pattya News Mr Roger had just returned from England the day before after visiting his ill sister over the Christmas period.

Thai police are investigating several motives behind the fatal shooting including a road-rage dispute or whether Mr Roger was involved in a love triangle.

Shocking CCTV footage of the fatal shooting shows Mr Roger on his red Scoopy I motorbike riding home after drinking with friends being overtaken by a white car.

The shooter pulls over, gets out of the vehicle and appears to fire at least three point-blank shots as Mr Rogers passes.

The unidentified gunman, who police are still trying to trace, gets back in the car then flees the scene at speed.

Thai police said the victim had been living in Thailand for 20 years, and had a Thai family.

His wife is being questioned and has had her phone confiscated after the killing in the notorious area for adult entertainment and violence.

An FCDO Spokesperson said: “We are supporting the family of a British man who has died Thailand and are in contact with the local authorities.”
