British national killed in Ukraine, Foreign Office confirms

A British national has been killed in Ukraine while a second is missing.

The families of both British nationals are being supported, a spokesperson at the Foreign Office said. No further details were given, such as where exactly they were located or what they were doing in Ukraine.

Sky News reported that the pair may have been volunteers fighting against Russian forces, but this has not been confirmed. In a statement the FCDO said: “We can confirm that a British national has been killed in Ukraine and are supporting their family.”

On the missing person, the spokesperson said: “We are aware of a British national who is missing in Ukraine and are supporting their family. We are urgently seeking further information. ”

People from across the world have been travelling to war-torn Ukraine to help the country defeat the Russian invaders. An unknown number of Brits are understood to be fighting in the country, reports the Mirror, despite pleas from the UK government for people not to sign up.

Among them are Shaun Pinner and Aiden Aslin, who were captured by Russian forces trying to protect the city of Mariupol. They were featured in Russian propaganda videos which have since been pulled off Facebook and Youtube.
