A food poisoning outbreak has reportedly struck tourists at a five-star resort in Turkey. At least one of the British holidaymakers - on breaks with holiday company TUI - has needed hospital treatment after falling ill, it is understood.
TUI confirmed the cases had happened at the Rixos Sungate hotel, part of its 'platinum' range of premium venues. On its website the firm describes the all-inclusive destination as "a mini town, tailored just for families" with "a whopping 11 restaurants bound to please even the fussiest of eaters".
Holidays at the Rixos Sungate cost up to £4,000 for families, The Mirror reports. One holidaymaker, Kate Dowling, said on Twitter: "My family are in Rixos Sungate – three out of five have food poisoning with one hospitalised. Staff are not doing anything to help, denying all knowledge even though other guests have complained."
Kate added in a further tweet to TUI: "I now have more than 10 families all suffering with these symptoms and these numbers are growing by the day. Something needs to be done."
TUI said: “We are concerned to hear of a small number of cases at Rixos Sungate. Our team at the resort are offering support where necessary.”
The 1,076-room resort is in Kemer on Turkey’s southern coast. It also has a water park and 12 swimming pools.
The resort has a 4.5 out of five-star ranking on TripAdvisor. The Mirror approached Rixos Hotels owner Accor for comment.
