British Gas shares simple iPhone trick to save £60 a year on energy bills

With energy bills almost tripling in price from October 1, millions of Brits are desperately searching for ways to cut down on household energy costs - whether that be using the washing machine less or buying more energy efficient appliances.

To help with the cost of living crisis, British Gas has suggested one simple way in which its customers can save £60 per year.

In a recent blog post by British Gas, the company shared their 10 best ways to save energy at home - and one was to unplug your phone and laptop chargers when they’re not being used.

The website states: "Across the country, people are unnecessarily overcharging their mobile phones and laptops. Instead, as soon as your device is fully charged, try and get into the habit of unplugging it. Not only will this save energy, it also prolongs battery life. It could also save you about £60 a year on your electricity bills."

Of course you can always benefit from purchasing some energy-efficient devices too, and one method British Gas suggests is buying a Hive Plug for £39. This clever device works as an adapter, between a charger and a plug, and can be used to switch off any charger via an app.

Another way to save energy is by switching to smart LED bulbs like Hive Lights which allow you to switch them on and off remotely. They also last a lot longer than traditional bulbs, meaning they’re less wasteful too.

Other tips which British Gas suggest is to do full laundry loads, use the eco-setting on your dishwasher or boiler, try to not overfill your kettle, turn down the temperature in your washing machine and update your heating system.
