A British boxer is currently in an induced coma after being injured during a match in a Scots hotel.
Luis Palmer, of Sheffield, was hit with what has been called a "very heavy punch" in the fourth round of his fight against Grant Quigley.
The bout between them took place at the Raddison Blu hotel in Glasgow city centre on Thursday, April 28, according to Glasgow Live.
It had been hosted by St Andrew's Sporting Club, the city's boxing institution which had trained Pakistani-born Scot Kash Farooq.
However, the 26-year-old of Scotstoun, Glasgow was forced to give up the sport early this year after receiving medical advice.
Robert Smith, the general secretary of the British Boxing Board of Control, told the Sheffield Star : “I was there.
It was an evenly matched contest, he took a very heavy punch at the end of the (fifth) round.
"He was treated in the ring and taken to hospital. He’s suffering from a bleed.
"They haven’t operated, other than releasing the pressure in the brain.
"He’s in an induced coma, as is normal procedure, I have spoken to the doctors this morning (Tuesday) and that’s where we are.”
Palmer, a 28-year-old dad-of-two, made his debut as a pro boxer against Mali Wright at the Royal Armouries, Leeds in February.
