British announcer Darren Fletcher’s call of the wild Mets-Phillies ending in London made it so much cooler

Consider this a formal petition to have more British announcers calling dramatic MLB games.

The New York Mets’ and Philadelphia Phillies’ London Series finale on Sunday was not short on tension. In the bottom of the ninth inning, the Phillies were this close to mounting an unbelievable comeback right after the Mets landed a haymaker three-run ninth of their own.

With the bases loaded and two outs, Nick Castellanos could’ve been the hero … until he shattered his bat, leading to a gutsy double play between catcher Luis Torrens and first baseman Pete Alonso that gave the Mets a 6-5 win.

Darren Fletcher had the call of the moment for TNT, and he did not disappoint:

“What an end! The shattered bat! The runner out at home plate!  The ball fired into the glove of the first baseman Pete Alonso! And the New York Mets somehow withstand the Phillies’ rally!”

I mean, that is flat-out perfection. That is precisely how you ham up a game-winning moment. If we can’t get people like Fletcher more regularly calling MLB games, it’s nice to know we’ll likely have him for future London events.
