Brits boarding long-haul British Airways flights are going to have access to a plethora of new in-flight entertainment.
That's because the airline has teamed up with Paramount+ for a host of exclusive content on its longer journeys.
The British flag carrier will be showing TV series from the streaming platform, which includes a number of small screen heavy hitters such as Halo, Queen of the Universe, Spongebob's Under Years, Yellowstone and the Offer, to name a few.
In a big boost for Trekkies, various series from the Star Trek franchise will also be available onboard.
The airline celebrated the news with a Star Trek takeover at Heathrow Terminal 5, where workers dressed up in Star Trek costumes and were styled by movie make up artists.
The Starfleet cadre made its way through the airport to board U.S.S. Enterprise flight 1701 to Starbase, surprising unsuspecting customers and colleagues.
Calum Laming, British Airways’ chief customer officer, said: “We wanted to kick off this announcement with Paramount+ in true blockbuster-style by bringing some of their exclusive content to life, directly to our home at Heathrow Terminal 5.
"It was great to see so many Star Trek fans from across the business come together to help us celebrate this launch, with many colleagues excited to swap their wings for the Starfleet Insignia for a day.
“We know that customers are really going to enjoy the hours of content that this partnership with Paramount+ brings."
Anna Priest, chief marketing officer, UK, at Paramount, said: “This partnership is a fantastic platform for our continued growth in the UK, allowing us to introduce millions of customers a year to some of the best shows anywhere, available on Paramount+.
"We’re confident that British Airways customers will love what they see and be encouraged to continue exploring the mountain of entertainment on offer.”
How to keep yourself, or your children, entertained during a flight long flight is a quandary as old as cheap commercial flying itself.
Earlier this year one ingenious traveller decided to load an Xbox into his carry on luggage and get it out mid-flight in a bid to beat the boredom.
In a post on Reddit a nearby passenger shared a picture showing how the occupant of the neighbouring seat had brought his gaming console along for the journey.
The image shows the man with his phone propped up on his tray table, while holding the distinctive controller in his hand.
In the picture's caption the poster wrote: “My seat neighbour on the plane brought an Xbox to play during the 12-hour flight to Bangkok."
The image was met with great praise from those on the website, who applauded the "genius" idea.
One branded him a “legend” while another called it a “sick setup”.
One pleased Redditer joked: “This is the kind of mobile gaming I can get behind.”
A fourth added: “As a middle aged man who wants to game but often find he doesn’t have the time, I respect the hell out of this move!”
