Britain's most in love dogs sleep cuddled up together and groom each other

Your dog may not fantasise about a romantic Valentine’s dinner or get excited to receive a dozen red roses, but our pets can form long-lasting, deep connections and celebrate love just like us.

Dog-friendly letting specialist, Canine Cottages recently launched a competition to find the UK’s most in-love pooches ahead of Valentine's Day.

After 2,650 entries and an overwhelming majority vote, two adorable golden retrievers were picked by the public and crowned Britain’s most in-love dogs.

Doggy duo Jefferson and Harrison - known as Jeff and Harry - stole the hearts of the nation and won a three-night romantic getaway with their humans, Jay and Callum Gee, to a beautiful cottage in North Yorkshire last week.

Jay and Callum welcomed Jeff into their home three years ago on Jay’s birthday, and Harry a couple of years later on Christmas Eve 2020.

The gorgeous doggy duo are completely and utterly in love, and “became best friends instantly”.

“They just took to each other straight away,” Jay said.

The goldies are cousins and love playing, falling asleep and looking cute together.

“Harry grooms Jeff all day. After a walk, he will pick all of the leaves out of Jeff’s hair,” Jay explained.

“Though Jeff doesn’t reciprocate,” she joked.

Jeff is “very patient and chilled” whereas Harry just wants to play all day.

“He’s still an excitable puppy,” Jay said.

Cheeky Jeff has a clever habit of holding objects hostage and exchanging them for treats.

“He actively goes round the house looking for things to steal,” Jay laughed.

While you’ll find Jeff with a random assortment of remotes, shoes and socks, you’ll always spot Harry with a tennis ball.

The dogs’ favourite time of day is when Callum gets home from work, and they’ve sneaked their way into permanently sleeping with their owners in bed.

Sharing the pups’ best trick, Jay said: “Jeff pretends to be dead after we ‘shoot’ him. It’s the most exciting thing he can do.”

Shannon Keary, digital PR manager at Canine Cottages, said: “We couldn’t agree more with the winner of the public vote!”
