A beagle cross in North Somerset has been dubbed “Britain’s loneliest dog” after spending more than 500 days in kennels. Charlie is now looking for his ‘forever home’.
Somerset Live reported that nine year old Charlie arrived at RSPCA Brent Knoll in 2021. He is a favourite with the Brent Knoll team, joining them every morning for their tea break.
Staff at the kennels said: “As much as we all adore Charlie, we would love nothing better than to see him in a wonderful new home. He’s such a playful and affectionate dog who deserves to find his special place in someone’s heart and home.

“We can’t understand why he’s not yet been adopted and really hope that someone out there will give this gorgeous rescue dog the second chance he needs. We really hope that someone out there will give this gorgeous rescue dog the second chance he needs.”
RSPCA North Somerset branch's behaviour and welfare adviser, Andy Cook, described Charlie as a “shy but sweet” dog who craves companionship and loves snuggling up on the sofa. Andy said: “It’s safe to say that this boy is a special lad and is the team’s favourite.”
Charlie came from a home where there was domestic abuse and confrontation, so Charlie can be worried when around people he does not know, especially men. But once he gets to know someone, he enjoys snuggles and cuddles. according to the RSPCA team.
He also loves to play with squeaky toys, rolling around the floor with his toys and running around with 'zoomies'. His forever home would ideally be with an owner who can help him with anxiety and an adult only home or with older children would suit him.
