Britain's Got Talent to get huge format shake-up ahead of new series

Britain's Got Talent is set for a big format shake-up when it returns this weekend.

The ITV show will be back for its launch episode on Saturday April 16th after two years off air, and to celebrate its return, the four judges - Simon Cowell, Alesha Dixon, David Walliams and Amanda Holden - have been drafted in for a new and very special segment, which they hope will delight fans as much as the Golden Buzzer moments have.

As part of the new format, the show is launching a special Golden Moments segment to the show, where the judges surprise a member of the public, who has been unsuspectingly nominated to appear on the programme.

Speaking about the exciting new addition, Ant McPartlin said: "There's also something new to look forward to this year, it's called Golden Moments, where each judge surprises an unsuspecting act that's been nominated without their knowledge and invites them to interview on our iconic stage at the London Palladium."

Simon revealed it came about after he surprised some school kids a few years back, by telling them their teacher had applied for them to be on Britain's Got Talent - and asked them if they wanted to join.

"The idea came about because a couple of years ago, it was like - there wasn't any sort of great plan, just someone said to me, will you go to this school and tell the school kids that they actually are going to be on Britain's Got Talent because they didn't know," he explained to The Mirror and other press about the previous moment.

"I turned up at the school, they had no idea what was going on and I said to them, your teacher has applied for you to be on the show. It was really exciting and it was really fun. About a year ago, one of the producers said how about we do that with all of the judges, so we surprise someone in all different ways and tell them that someone has applied for them to be on the show."

He added: "There were four surprises, each of us had one to do. It was brilliant and we've called it a Golden Moment."

David recalled how he had to travel to Warrington, whilst everyone else's was filmed in London - as Simon joked he had to brave the traffic for his, but the comedian still said it was a great thing to do and promised fans would love it.

He said: "It was a very nice thing. If Simon got a good reaction, you can imagine the reaction I got! It was really sweet. The Golden Buzzer moment is such an euphoric one that you really want a moment like that in every show, so I think this is a really brilliant thing."

However, Simon did warn it wasn't an automatic place in the final like the Golden Buzzer did, as he added: "It's just something else we like the idea of doing. We all enjoyed doing it, it was really fun for everyone."

*Britain’s Got Talent launches on Saturday 16th April, 8pm and continues on Sunday 17th April, 7.35pm on ITV.
