Britain's Got Talent Simon Cowell breaks the rules for 'astonishing' audition he'll never forget

Britain's Got Talent Simon Cowell broke the rules on his own show during the episode that aired on Saturday, May 20. The judge was so moved by Unity, a dance group, that he pressed the golden buzzer despite there not being any left.

As the audition came to an end, Simon said: "I thought that actually was astonishing. The way that you got your message across it was so strong, it was an audition I'll never forget."

He added: "What you've done you've done it your way, and look we don't have any golden buzzers left but sometimes I feel you should just break the rules," much to the shock of his fellow judges Bruno Tonioli, Amanda Holden, and Alesha Dixon.

The group in question was a dance group with ages ranging from 16 to 24. They performed a powerful routine to The Village by Wrabel with screen content that involved members of the group standing in the middle of the stage as a voiceover told their stories.

Before their performance, the group told the panel: "We are called Unity, we are all friends in college, so we decided to put this group together to perform a piece called I Will, which is being told you can't or you're not enough and how as a group we come together."

As the performance finished, Bruno stood up and told the group: "You can be anything you want and anyone you want to be in life, the message is loud and clear. The execution, artistically, and your choreography was superb. It really was a fantastic performance at every level, I had goosebumps, that's all I can say."

"Well it was such a beautiful..." Amanda said before being cut off by the audience urging her to hit the golden buzzer. "The audience wants a golden buzzer but there's none left," presenter Dec told viewers at home as Ant joked: "Bruno will hit it anyway, he doesn't care."

"I've already done it twice I can't anymore," a devastated Bruno, not knowing what Simon was about to do. Amanda then continued: "For me, it was such a beautiful and passionate piece, the message was so strong. Everything you stand for, all of your personalities, the love you have for one another, all the different characters involved in this group made this such an amazing and special piece, it was beautiful."

Alesha told them: "I was very moved by that, that's how you use a stage, I'm very proud of all of you and we heard you loud and clear." For more showbiz and television stories get our newsletter here.
