Britain's Got Talent's Simon Cowell takes brutal swipe at 'boring' contestants from show's past

Simon Cowell risked the wrath of former Britain's Got Talent contestants, as the branded some of them 'boring' during this year's auditions.

After close to a year away from screens, the hit ITV talent show returned to screens for its new run this weekend, 16 years after mobile phone salesman Paul Potts won the first ever series, back in 2007, having blown everyone away with his opera singing. BGT fans were treated to a double header of episodes on launch weekend as Simon and his colleagues, including new judge Bruno Tonioli, saw the first wave of auditions.

Sunday's show saw dancers Nathan and Joanne grace the Britain's Got Talent stage, after Alesha Dixon headed to see Nathan at one of his dance classes, led by teacher Joanne and in voted him to try out for the much loved programme. Nathan has Down's syndrome and was praised by viewers for "smashing stereotypes" as the pair wowed with their cha cha cha, much to the delight of former Strictly star Bruno.

Like fellow judge Bruno, Simon was also a big fan of the performance and it was when he was giving his feedback to Nathan and Joanne that Simon stuck the knife in some of the show's former stars.

Addressing Nathan and Joanne, Simon said: "We do get good dancers who are very boring on this show," as the audience laughed and Nathan rolled his eyes.

Simon continued: "But, both of you had got such amazing personalities. Even before you started, I think every single person in this theatre was going 'just be brilliant' and you were brilliant.

"Everything I about this audition; I've got to tell you, I love."
