Britain's Got Talent's David Walliams confirms return amid 'disrespectful' comments controversy

David Walliams has confirmed he will appear in an upcoming Britain's Got Talent special, after quitting the show amid controversy over disparaging comments he made about contestants on the ITV show. And, while he will be on the panel, Simon Cowell won't play any part.

At the beginning of last month, clips obtained by The Guardian unearthed the former Little Britain star calling one male contestant a "c***" and said of one female auditionee that she looked as if "she thinks you want to f*** her," while in conversation with an unnamed person at BGT auditions in London back in 2020.

In regard to the female, Walliams was heard saying: " She's like the slightly boring girl you meet in the pub that thinks you want to f*** them, but you don't.

"She thinks you want to f*** her, but you don't," he went on. "I know, she's just like: 'Oh, f**k off!' I was saying, she thinks you want to f**k her, but you don't"

He added: "It's the last thing on your mind, but she's like: 'Yep, I bet you do!' 'No I don't!' I had a bit of a b****, but now it’s going, it's now shrivelled up inside my body."

Walliams apologised for his "disrespectful" comments, although he is now tipped to quit the show after a decade on the panel, before it returns for a brand new series in 2023. However, he will appear as a judge in Britain’s Got Talent: The Ultimate Magician, which was recorded at the end of September.

The special. hosted by Stephen Mulhern, as Ant and Dec were forced to pull out due to having Covid at the time, will see Walliams join Amanda Holden and Alesha Dixon as judges, with them joined by special guest panellist Penn Jillette.

A tweet went out on Walliams' official Twitter account on Tuesday evening which read: "Britain’s Got Talent: The Ultimate Magician is on Sunday 18th December at 8pm ⁦ @ITV hosted by ⁦ @StephenMulhern with special guest judge ⁦⁦the legendary magician ⁦ @pennjillett e."
