Britain's Got Talent's Amanda Holden angers fans with 'wokery and snowflakes' comment

Britain's Got Talent fans were quick to call out judge Amanda Holden over comments she made in relation to one act on the show. During Wednesday night's semi finals Amanda hit out at "wokery" and "snowflakes" when giving feedback to one of the performances on the night.

Amanda, 52, was reacting to the routine of contestant Markus Birdman during the live semi-final episode. The comedian's performance received a red buzzer from Simon Cowell and a lukewarm reception from the live audience, but Amanda was more enthusiastic. It saw him discuss his daughter, his stroke and more. While some of Markus' jokes were not a hit with the audience, Amanda spoke out to praise him and took the opportunity to take aim at "snowflakes", the Mirror reports.

In Markus' set, he joked: "You don’t know fatherly pride until you see your then-13 year old daughter play a ‘lady of the night’ and absolutely nail it."

Amanda said: "For all the snowflakes and all the wokery and everything else that's out there I applaud you because this is the way forward, not the other way."

But her comment received criticism from viewers on Twitter as one fan said: "All the wokery’ Amanda Holden quickly reminding me why I can’t stand her tbh".

Another wrote: "Amanda Holden on Britain's Got Talent channelling Hughie Green by sounding like a right wing nutjob, decrying "snowflakes and wokery"."

Another added: "Does Amanda Holden want a job on GB News? Throwing "wokery" and "snowflakes" into the critique of a comedian #BGT".

"Amanda Holden calling out “snowflakes and wokery” on #BGT give me a BREAK," a third penned.

The Cambridge Dictionary defines Wokery as "a way of referring to the acts and opinions of people who are especially aware of social problems such as racism and inequality, used by people who do not approve of these acts and opinions", while a snowflake is described as "a very sensitive person".

Amanda previously received criticism in March as she said the late Paul O'Grady "wasn't woke in any way".
