Britain's Got Talent: Mum gives up audition to 15-year-old daughter in emotional show first

One mum shocked the Britain's Got Talent judges, the studio audience, and viewers at home during the episode that aired on Saturday, April 22 when she gave up her audition for her daughter. The 33-year-old from Liverpool led her 15-year-old daughter to believe she would be watching in the wings before bringing her on stage.

As Tia watched on with presenters Ant and Dec, her mum Claire told Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon, and Bruno Toniolli: "I'm a full-time mother and I'm here with my 15-year-old daughter. She thinks it's me auditioning, she's got me through some very hard times in my life and I feel like I owe her so I'm giving up my audition for my daughter."

As Simon said he wasn't following, Claire reiterated: "I'm giving up my audition today for Tia. This is my way of saying she's fabulous because she deserves it and she's an incredible person. Tia doesn't know how good she is."

Totally gobsmacked a very nervous Tia joined her mum on stage before Alesha suggested she took some time to get prepared. "Has this ever happened before?" Bruno asked Simon as the mother-and-daughter duo went backstage to get ready.

"No," a surprised Simon responded as Bruno added: "So it's her gift to her daughter."

Upon returning, Tia blew everyone away with a rendition of I Didn't Know My Own Strength by Whitney Houston. Backstage with Ant and Dec, Tia's beaming mum proudly said: "That's my daughter."

Following the performance Tia got four yeses as Amanda said: "You absolutely smashed it, you've got a massive career ahead of you."

As Alesha said: "Your mum said you had an amazing voice and I agree, you've got a beautiful tone, well done, smashed it."

Bruno told Tia the emotional song "got me going," as Simon said to her: "That's how you do it, I really love moments like this. You didn't know you were going to audition, your mum sets you up and you go 'Oh I'll just sing Whitney Houston then,' like it's normal."

Turning his attention to Mum, Simon said: "That's very sweet what you did for your daughter because I'm assuming without you doing that she wouldn't of auditioned. I absolutely loved this audition." For more showbiz and television stories get our newsletter here.
