Britain's Got Talent has showcased some wonderful performances throughout its 16-year run but has also thrown up a good deal of wackiness with it. Viewers of Sunday night's show were treated to perhaps one of the strangest auditions in the show's history, which came from the unlikeliest of sources.
77-year old Joy Weir took to the stage as the new series kicked off at the London Palladium and told judges that she was from Whitburn in West Lothian, just down the road from Susan Boyle, one of the shows most successful ever acts. However, their auditions couldn't have been more different.
Accompanied to the audition by her two granddaughters, Joy revealed that she had 21 grandchildren and an astonishing 37 great-grandchildren. She added that she had been motivated to do the show by her grandchildren, telling judges: "I've got to do it for them, haven't I?"

Joy's audition got off to an unremarkable start, as she stood smiling in the centre of the stage as the intro to 'Tale As Old As Time' from the Beauty and the Beast played over the sound system. However, what happened next caught everyone in the audience and viewers at home completely by surprise. For more what's on and food stories from WalesOnline, you can get our newsletter here.
The music suddenly cut and changed to a cover version of electronic dance track 'The Logical Song' by German techno band Scooter, with the great-grandmother starting to shake her hips and gesticulate with her arms as she began an extraordinary dance routine. As the tempo started to build, she got the audience up on their feet and had judges Amanda Holden and Alesha Dixon clapping along, while hosts Ant and Dec joined in with the rave as they danced along with glowsticks backstage.
However, it wasn't long until another judge wanted in on the action, as David Walliams got up on stage with Joy. Dancing along with the 77-year-old to Bits and Pieces by Artemesia and Sandstorm by Darude, the Little Britain star took off his jacket and unbuttoned his shirt to reveal his torso, prompting a disgusted head judge Simon Cowell to press his buzzer.
As the performance came to a close, Simon said David's cameo was "horrendous," while Amanda and Alesha got to their feet to applaud Joy's efforts, along with the 4,000 people inside the theatre. While Simon was preoccupied with David putting his jacket back on, the other judges were delighted with what they had just seen.
"I mean, come on, Joy by name, Joy by nature right?" said Alesha. "Honestly, thank you for making us all happy and smiley." The panel then had to decide whether to send her through to the next round, with David kicking off the voting by saying: "Well obviously I'm going to say yes!" Amanda and Alesha also said yes, while Simon added: "I don't know what to say but you're through to the next round," much to the delight of the audience.
Viewers at home were also left in stitches by Joy's hilarious performance. "Okay, I was NOT expecting that. You go Joy hun," wrote one person on Twitter, with another adding: "I'd hit the club with Joy for sure." A third wrote: "What an amazing woman and what a large family. I’m guessing the prize money will help out with Christmas! That was great fun, it would be a yes from me for Joy!"
Others claimed the show had already found its champion in the 77-year-old, with one viewer saying she was the "best ever act on BGT". Another wrote: "Finally, the winner has arrived," while a third added: "Joy is the winner we all deserve". Britain's Got Talent continues next Saturday at 8pm on ITV.
