Britain's Got Talent hosts Ant and Dec break news of format change for new series

Ant and Dec have broken news of a big format change for Britain's Got Talent, which involves unsuspecting members of the audience.

Having been scrapped completely last year due to the coronavirus pandemic and the fact that lockdown restrictions were still in place when auditions were meant to start, the smash hit ITV show will finally be back on our screens this weekend. An teaser video for what' to come this year shows an array of singers hitting some impressive high notes, Amanda Holden gasping in shock and even Ant and Dec dragging a contestant off stage.

Earlier this week there was great news for Britain's Got Talent fans when ITV confirmed it will be on not once, but twice over Easter weekend, with shows on both Saturday and Sunday. And, as well as trying to guess who will get a Golden Buzzer this year, viewers are set to be left reaching for their tissues, thanks to a new twist that's come into play for 2022.

The Mirror reports that the show is launching a special Golden Moments segment to the show, where the judges surprise a member of the public, who has been unsuspectingly nominated to appear on the programme. Speaking about the format change for the new series, host Ant McPartlin said: "There's also something new to look forward to this year, it's called Golden Moments, where each judge surprises an unsuspecting act that's been nominated without their knowledge and invites them to interview on our iconic stage at the London Palladium."

Ant and Dec hinted at the new element to the show earlier in this week, when they admitted to being left on the verge of tears by one surprise. Ant commented: "We surprised somebody in the audience He was surprised by his daughters and was asked to come on stage and perform that day. He thought he had just come to watch the show!

"He went away for an hour or two, rehearsed, and then at the end of that session came back and performed the song. That was very emotional."

Dec added: "That was a tear-jerker! That's what's amazing about BGT is that you never quite know the next act if it's going to have you in tears, in hysterics, floods of rage because it's not as good as you'd hoped. You just never know what emotions you're going to feel for the next act. That's what's so magic about it."
