Britain's Got Talent fans complain to OFCOM over Viggo Venn's win

Britain's Got Talent viewers raced to complain to Ofcom after Sunday night's live final, it has been revealed.

Over 100 fans of the show complained to the broadcasting regulator over the winner of the show - despite it being a public vote.

Viggo Venn was crowned the 2023 champion on Sunday night by hosts Ant and Dec, and it's reported he got 22% of the public vote.

Around 116 people complained in total, while almost 100 others complained about new judge Bruno Tonioli in an earlier live episode that same week, after his comments to dancing duo Nathan & Joanne.

Now it's been revealed according to the regulator that viewers complained over the result, amid the winner confessing "it wasn't his fault".

The complaints were said to be about the winner result, while it did come as a shock to many viewers during the announcement.

Hi-vis-wearing Viggo was visibly shocked after he was announced as the winner, nabbing £250,000 and a place on the Royal Variety Show, and went on to race around the stage and knock host Ant McPartlin over.

Controversially, inspirational dancer Musa Motha - whose leg was amputated when he was just 11 years old - failed to get a place in the top three, as did incredible opera singer Malakai Bayoh.

Speaking on Lorraine on Wednesday, Viggo reacted to his shock win and confessed he didn't actually want to win.

"I was kinda hoping I didn't win because it would be so embarrassing but I was very happy when they said it the British public have such sense of ridiculous humour," he admitted, having also confessed the result "wasn't his fault".

After the result was announced, some of the audience could be heard booing and viewers took to Twitter to give their thoughts.

One tweeted: "Very surprised. But Viggo was very funny. Very distasteful for anyone to boo Viggo. Not his fault he won, people voted for him, not anyone else. Made it a sour end thanks to the audience reaction. Well done, Viggo!!! #BritainsGotTalent #BGT2023 #bgt."

While another tweeted: "Sounded like a lot of boos there when #ViggoVenn was announced as the winner of #BritainsGotTalent. I thought he was great but a shock omissions from the final 3, and I think everyone thought the young lad would win. Bit of a deflated, down-beat end to the series #BGT2023 #BGT."

One raged: "NEVER EVER EVER EVER watching @BGT #BritainsGotTalent again. absolute shambles‼️ a guy running about in a high vis vest over so much proper genuine real talent? the boos in that audience, shocked faces and genuine tears said it all for me‼️ SHAMBLES."

As for Bruno, the judge shocked viewers with his awkward comments (ITV)

As for Bruno, the judge shocked viewers with his "inappropriate" comments to an act during a semi-final show on May 30, and the remarks led to 69 Ofcom complaints.

As dancers Nathan and Joanne performed, his feedback included: "In control... firing on all cylinders... kicking and flicking.

"You naughty boy you went under her legs and you had a good peek didn't you? I love your naughty attitude. You don't care. You go for it! Fun for us all. Thank you my darling."

Viewers slammed the judge for the comments at the time, calling his words "inappropriate" and calling for him to apologise.

One viewer said: "Did Bruno just say, 'You went between her legs and had a good peep' not sure that's appropriate."

Another tweeted: "That comment from Bruno was completely inappropriate about that young lad dancing and going under his partners legs. He should apologise."

A third fan wrote: "#BGT I can't believe Bruno said he looked up her dress!!!! Got to say that's an awful thing to say to the lad."
