Britain’s Got Talent 2023: Amanda Holden smashes Golden Buzzer for 11-year-old she convinced to audition

Amanda Holden has chosen her Golden Buzzer act for this year’s series of Britain’s Got Talent. The 52-year-old pressed her buzzer for 11-year-old singer Olivia Lynes during Saturday’s, April 29 episode after convincing her to come for an audition.

Amanda surprised Olivia at the theatre whilst she and her mum were getting tickets for Matilda The Musical. The judge told the youngster how her mum had reached out to the show in a bid to encourage her to audition.

“I wanted to ask you whether you might like to come down to Britain’s Got Talent and meet the other judges and come and sing for us as an audition?” Amanda asked and Olivia replied: “Yes please,” and so she did. During her audition, the 11-year-old from Bath chose to sing Defying Gravity from the musical Wicked. Despite being nervous, Olivia impressed both the audience and the judges - prompting Amanda to smash her Golden Buzzer, thus securing her a place in the semi-finals.

The judges then shared their thoughts on Olivia’s performance. “The whole time you were up there I thought just how effortlessly you sing,” Alesha Dixon said before adding, “It just pours out of you. That was an incredible performance.”

Bruno Tonioli told her: “You are a singing miracle” and Simon Cowell echoed: “That was like a scene from a movie. You just blew the roof off! I mean seriously perfect, perfect, perfect Golden Buzzer. You so deserve this.”

Amanda said of the Golden Buzzer performance: “I wasn’t expecting to do that. I always go on how I feel in my heart and everybody was on their feet and you truly deserve that moment Olivia. I felt so proud of you.”

Britain’s Got Talent continues on Saturday, May 6 on ITV1 and ITVX at 8pm.
