Brit who vanished after trip to Thailand 'found safe' after desperate search

A British traveller who disappeared following a visit to Thailand has been found safe after a two-week search spanning 5,000 miles.

Simon Robinson, 27, flew to Thailand for a solo trip on July 22, with initial plans to remain until August 3.

Mr Robinson, from Lincolnshire, phoned his girlfriend on July 26 to tell her of his plans to return home early. However, that was the last anyone heard from him until Thursday night.

Initially feared missing in Bangkok, where he was last known to be, the family later received information that Simon had in fact boarded a flight to Finland.

He was expected to catch a connecting flight from Helsinki to Manchester but never made it onto the plane.

Simon's sister has now confirmed to The Sun that he has now been found safe.

She said: "Simon rang me and apologised. He's okay thank God.

"He didn't say [where he was]. I'm just so happy he is okay.

"I didn't ask if he was coming back. I was just so relieved to hear his voice."

An Instagram account dedicated to the search effort, managed by one of Simon's former schoolmates, jubilantly shared the news of his discovery.

The celebratory post read: "Best news ever!!! Thank you everyone so much for the support!!! Let's get Simon home where he had been very missed."

The Robinson family's ordeal took a dramatic turn when, initially fearing Simon lost in Bangkok, they frantically sought assistance from both British and Thai authorities to initiate a search.

A breakthrough came when a social media user, purporting to be a Thai immigration officer, told the family that Simon had boarded a Finnair flight from Bangkok to Helsinki.

Friend Demi Guttesen subsequently discovered that Simon's phone had last been active around the time the plane was scheduled to land in Finland.

His relieved family took to social media to update concerned followers, revealing that Simon had made contact and expressed remorse for the distress caused.

Sister Sarah Robinson Dale shared on Facebook: "Update. Simon has rang me he is ok and deeply sorry for worrying everyone. Thank you to everyone who has shared and supported us."
